The Grenchen brand turns 100 with six stone dials and a Swiss calibre from La Joux-Perret, the La Chaux-de-Fonds movement maker that belongs to the Citizen group.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nivada Grenchen dates its founding to 1926 and is spending this year celebrating its centenary. Since the brand resumed production in Grenchen in 2020, its catalogue has been built on reissues of the models that gave it an identity, and the F77, an integrated-bracelet sports watch revived from the house's 1970s archive, has become one of the most recognisable of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the anniversary, Nivada put the F77 MKII 100 Years on sale on 24 September: a series with six natural stone dials and a new calibre, La Joux-Perret's G101, which replaces the Soprod P024 used in the previous version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 38 mm case<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The 316L steel case measures 38 mm across, 46.2 mm lug to lug and 11.5 mm thick, double-domed sapphire crystal included. It keeps the model's octagonal bezel and 100 metres of water resistance, and adds a sapphire caseback that shows the movement. Those are restrained proportions for an integrated-bracelet sports watch, suited to anyone who prefers a discreet presence on the wrist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dials are slices of natural stone in six permanent versions: azurite, labradorite, jade, black opal, black shungite and smoky quartz. A seventh, Ice Agate, is limited to 100 pieces. Because each slice comes from a different stone, colour and veining vary from watch to watch, and every example is unique. The applied indices are silver, and luminous dots around the periphery handle night-time legibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The G101 calibre<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

La Joux-Perret introduced the G100 family in late 2021, an automatic built to the dimensions of the ETA 2824 (25.6 mm in diameter and 4.45 mm high) so that brands could fit it into cases designed for that calibre. It runs at 4 Hz, has 24 jewels and offers a 68-hour power reserve, enough to take the watch off on Friday evening and find it still running on Monday morning; against the Soprod P024, that is the improvement most noticeable in daily wear. The G101 is the no-date variant, the one Nivada uses, and the same family of calibres can be found in watches from Frederique Constant, Furlan Marri and anOrdain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La Joux-Perret and its owners<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

La Joux-Perret makes its movements in La Chaux-de-Fonds, in the Swiss Jura, and has been part of the Citizen group since 2012, when the Japanese company bought Prothor Holding, the firm that brought together La Joux-Perret, the component maker Prototec and the Arnold & Son brand. In November 2025 LVMH's watch division, owner of TAG Heuer, took a minority stake, and Citizen retains the majority. The F77 MKII's previous supplier has a similar structure: Soprod, maker of the P024, has belonged since 2008 to Miguel Rodr\u00edguez's Festina group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ownership of the company does not change where the calibre comes from. The Swiss ordinance governing the \"Swiss made\" designation, in force since 1 January 2017, requires at least 60% of the watch's value and 60% of the movement's value to be generated in Switzerland, with casing-up and final inspection carried out there; its criteria concern the place of manufacture and assembly. That is why the G101 and the P024 are Swiss calibres, and also why the meca-quartz Autochron that Nivada expanded in August does not carry the words: its calibre is the Seiko VK67, made in Japan, whereas the automatic Autochron, with a Swiss movement, does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Distribution and pricing<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The F77 MKII 100 Years costs 1,590 dollars on a canvas or rubber strap and 1,790 on the integrated steel bracelet. Nivada Grenchen sells it through its official website and through authorised retailers in several countries, including the United States, Spain and Peru. There is no retailer in Mexico, so the direct option there is the brand's website, which offers free shipping above 200 dollars and a two-year warranty; import duties are the buyer's responsibility and are paid on delivery. The first batch has already sold out on the official site, and the second is expected to deliver at the end of October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Mexico, the Nivada name belongs to Holzer y C\u00eda., a Mexican jewellery and watch house that sells its own catalogue under the brand, mostly quartz. Nivada Grenchen operates under licence and independently, so the Nivada watches found in Mexican jewellers are not part of the Swiss catalogue and do not include the F77. A centenary in stone and steel<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The F77 MKII 100 Years is relevant because it combines a compact case, natural stone dials in which no two are alike and a Swiss calibre with nearly three days of power reserve, at a price that stays below 2,000 dollars even on the bracelet. The series has no date version, which leaves the dial without a window to interrupt the stone's veining or break the symmetry of the design. Before deciding, it is worth weighing the wait for the second batch and, in countries without a retailer such as Mexico, the import cost the buyer bears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
