In 1962 it introduced the DiaStar which, according to the brand, was the first watch with a sapphire crystal made on a large scale, and which had a highly scratch-resistant hardmetal case. In 1986, with the Integral, it brought high-tech ceramic to one of its collections for the first time, and it has since developed the material in a range of colours and finishes. The brand also has a long relationship with design: the brand has collaborated with more than thirty artists and designers from different countries.

Rado brought both sides of its work to Mexico City as a sponsor of Design House, and ORELO attended the press presentation on Friday, 16 October, at the brand's invitation.

The house on Paseo de las Palmas

Design House is the exhibition in which Design Week Mexico invites architecture and interior design studios to rework the rooms of a single house. This year's venue is a 1970s residence designed by Fernando Jackson at Paseo de las Palmas 1305, in the Lomas de Chapultepec neighbourhood, and it stays open to the public until 1 November. Rado has a long-standing collaboration with Les Couleurs Suisse, the company that officially represents the Polychromie Architecturale, the colour palette the architect defined for his buildings. The selection also included models from the Anatom, Integral, DiaStar Skeleton, Centrix and True Square families, as well as pieces created with designers Tej Chauhan and Kunihiko Morinaga. The pieces share careful design and a range of materials, and high-tech ceramic appears in almost all of them.

The five new releases

The house also hosted the presentation of Rado's releases for the second half of 2026. The Captain Cook Discover keeps the case shape of the sporty Captain Cook line, now with a fixed bezel, and is made of high-tech ceramic, as is the three-link bracelet. It comes in five versions: three with a black case and a gradient dial in green, blue or red, and two Wave models with a black dial engraved with a wave pattern, in a black or white case. Its automatic calibre uses a hairspring in Nivachron, an antimagnetic alloy also found in the other two mechanical releases

The 1986 Integral was Rado's first collection in high-tech ceramic, and the edition marking its fortieth anniversary is limited to 1,986 pieces in reference to that year. The bracelet combines polished black ceramic centre links with yellow gold-coloured steel links, and the vertically brushed dial, in the same gold tone, carries five baguette-cut diamonds treated in black.

The True Square Thinline is the slimmest high-tech ceramic watch Rado has made, with a 5.0 mm profile helped by a very flat quartz calibre. The case and bracelet are in plasma ceramic, a process in which the brand enriches finished white ceramic parts with carbon to give them a metallic finish; here it is polished, with a warm tone that suits the champagne sunray dial.

The DiaStar Original revisits the 1962 design, and its two new Skeleton versions, in autumn-inspired tones, pair an annular dial with a matching rubber strap: black for the version with a yellow gold-coloured bezel and brown for the one that introduces a rose gold-coloured bezel. The Captain Cook Discover uses it for the case and bracelet of a sports watch water resistant to 150 metres, which makes it more resistant to everyday scratches than a steel watch. On the True Square Thinline, plasma ceramic gives a 5.0 mm case a metallic finish without adding any metal.
