The Swiss maker of the Cricket, the alarm watch worn by several US presidents, offers its 1960s-inspired Skindiver Chronograph dive chronograph with a white or black dial and red details.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vulcain was founded in 1858 in La Chaux-de-Fonds as Manufacture Ditisheim, and in 1898 it became the Fabrique Vulcain. In 1947 it introduced the Cricket, an alarm wristwatch worn by US presidents Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon and Lyndon B. Johnson, which is why it is known as the watch of presidents. In 1961 the brand brought that alarm to a dive watch, the Nautical, which also had a decompression table printed on the dial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2023 Vulcain revived the Skindiver Nautique, one of its 1960s dive watches, and in 2025 it introduced the Skindiver Chronograph, based on a chronograph the brand designed in the same decade that never went into series production. Until now the model has been offered with a black or silver dial and in two limited editions of 100 pieces, one with a salmon dial and one in meteorite. On 20 October, Vulcain published two new versions for the regular collection on its website: the Red & White, with a white dial, and the Red & Black, with a black dial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Red for the chronograph<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

On both versions, red marks everything that belongs to the chronograph: the central seconds hand, the first segment of the 30-minute counter and the numerals of the outer scale. That way, the time being measured stands out at a glance from the time of day, shown by the hour and minute hands and the applied indices filled with Super-LumiNova. On the Red & Black, the black dial makes the red stand out even more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dial keeps the model's decimal scale, which divides the minute into a hundred parts so that a time measured with the chronograph can be noted and calculated in hundredths of a minute: one minute and fifteen seconds reads as 1.25 minutes, a figure that can be added or multiplied directly. Alongside it runs a tachymeter scale, used to work out a speed from the time taken to cover a known distance; if a car covers one kilometre in 30 seconds, the chronograph seconds hand, stopped at that moment, points to 120 on the scale, or 120 kilometres per hour. The ceramic rotating bezel can time an interval without starting the chronograph: once its zero is lined up with the minute hand, the bezel scale shows the minutes elapsed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are three ways to wear it: a vintage-style steel bracelet, the Bead of Rice bracelet, whose small rounded links recall grains of rice, and a rubber strap shaped to fit the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ETA 7753 calibre<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Skindiver Chronograph uses the ETA 7753, an automatic chronograph calibre derived from the 7750 that, in its full form, has counters at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock and a date window. Vulcain leaves out the hour counter and the date, so the dial keeps two symmetrical counters. Through the sapphire caseback, the rotor can be seen with its brushed, circular-grained finish and the brand's engraved logo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where to buy it<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Vulcain sells the Skindiver Chronograph on its official website with free international shipping. For orders from Mexico, the site shows prices converted to US dollars: 3,513 on the vintage bracelet, 3,365 on the Bead of Rice and 3,193 on the rubber strap, excluding import duties, which are paid by the buyer. In Spain it is sold at shops such as Cronotempvs and Grassy in Madrid, and at jewellers in Barcelona, Valladolid, Huelva and Mungia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Skindiver Chronograph brings into the current collection a chronograph Vulcain designed in the 1960s and never sold, now with a ceramic bezel, a sapphire crystal and a Swiss automatic calibre. The Red & White and Red & Black versions add two dials on which red clearly separates the chronograph functions from the reading of the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For those who know Vulcain through the Cricket, the Skindiver series reveals another side of its archive: its dive watches. Its 50 m water resistance is suited to splashes and swimming, closer to a sports watch than to a dive watch.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
