Tiger's Eye is quartz with mineral fibers aligned inside it; cut against the grain and it splinters. Venezianico cuts each slab with a pressurized waterjet, orienting it first along the natural direction of those fibers, thins it to roughly 0.4mm, and mounts it on a brass base. The result is a stone disc about as thick as three sheets of paper, with a manufacturing quirk that here works as a feature: there's no way to make two of them alike.

That's the Nereide Tigris, the diver the Venetian brand has just opened for pre-order.

© Venezianico

From Two Brothers at Ca' Foscari to a Factory in the Veneto

Venezianico began in late 2017, when Alberto and Alessandro Morelli were students at Venice's Ca' Foscari University and decided to build watches that sounded like their city. The brand's own telling has the logo emerging from a walk through St. Mark's Square: the gilded Renaissance cross crowning the old Clock Tower, that emblem of passing time in Venice.

Ten years on, the company operates out of San Donà di Piave, in the province of Venice, and its catalog is one of the odder things in the accessible segment: watches in bronze, in titanium, with tungsten bezels, with a proprietary ceramic-tungsten composite, with dials of avventurina — the Venetian glass flecked with copper — and of malachite, lapis lazuli, coral, amethyst, turquoise. Nearly all of them between $700 and $1,700.

What we like about Venezianico isn't the marketing, which can get solemn. It's that the brand makes material bets big houses won't make at this price, and makes them in production runs rather than as one-off exercises. The Tigris bezel is a good example: 9 out of 10 on the Mohs scale, effectively unscratchable, in a price bracket where the industry settles for aluminum or, at best, ceramic.

© Venezianico

The Watch

The case measures 42mm across, 49mm lug-to-lug, and 12.5mm thick overall, in 316L stainless steel. First, size: 42mm across, 49mm lug-to-lug, and 12.5mm thick is not a discreet watch, and a golden stone dial tends to ask for a case that doesn't shout. On a wrist of 17cm or less this will wear large, and there is no 39mm Tigris.

Second, the movement. The SW200-1 is an honest workhorse — Sellita rates it at 28,800 vph, 26 jewels, and roughly a 38-hour power reserve — but it's exactly what this price bracket implies, no more. You aren't paying for the caliber here. You're paying for the dial and the bezel.

Third, the catalog. By our count, the Tigris is the eighth or ninth stone dial in the Nereide line. Venezianico has turned the mineral dial into a production line, and at some point you have to ask whether you're looking at a new watch or a familiar one with a different slab on top. The honest answer is the latter. That the slab is spectacular doesn't change the fact.

© Venezianico

SPEC SHEET - Venezianico Nereide Tigris (ref. 4521543S)

Case: 316L stainless steel, 42mm diameter x 12.5mm total thickness, 49mm lug-to-lug, sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, 120-click unidirectional bezel with polished tungsten insert (9/10 on the Mohs scale), screw-down crown, caseback engraved with the submarine Nereide, 200m water resistance.
Dial: natural Tiger's Eye, 0.4mm stone disc on a brass base, waterjet-cut and oriented along the fiber; Swiss-made BGW9 Super-LumiNova.
Movement: Sellita SW200-1, Swiss automatic, three hands with date.
Bracelet: five-link Sansovino, satin-brushed with polished accents, tool-free micro-adjustment clasp.
Production: first batch of 500 pieces. It's a pre-order: shipments begin August 21, 2026, so you pay now and receive it in three weeks or more.

Venezianico offers free worldwide shipping on orders over €230 / $230, estimating two to five business days for countries outside the EU, UK, and US. One detail worth reading closely: the US storefront advertises "taxes and duties included, no extras," but that promise appears on the American site, not the international one. For Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, or Chile the brand doesn't specify who covers customs, so assume it's on you — in Mexico, 16% VAT plus tariff, which can push the total well above list (this is approximate; confirm with a customs broker before buying); in Colombia, 19% VAT plus a variable tariff. Spain is the simple case: a final euro price with no surprises, since you're buying inside the EU. Venezianico also maintains a network of authorized dealers — mostly Italian jewelers — listed under Retailers on its site.

A necessary disclosure: this review is based on the brand's official specifications and images, not on a unit we've had on the wrist.
