Oris's collaboration with Swiss deer-leather specialist Cervo Volante gains a burgundy dial inspired by autumn in the forests around the brand's factory.
Oris has been making watches in Hölstein, in Switzerland's Waldenburg Valley, since 1904, and the Big Crown Pointer Date has been part of its catalogue since 1938. On this model, a central hand points to the day of the month on a 1-to-31 scale printed around the edge of the dial.
Cervo Volante was founded in Switzerland in 2017 by two entrepreneurs with backgrounds in biotechnology and wildlife management. It makes shoes and accessories from the hides left over from the deer population management carried out each year by the Swiss authorities, hides that would otherwise be discarded. The leather is tanned naturally at one of the country's last remaining tanneries, and each hide keeps its natural marks. The two companies have worked together since 2022, and in 2025 they released a 40 mm Big Crown Pointer Date with a gradient maple-colored dial. The edition Oris presented on September 29 keeps that case and moves the dial to burgundy.

Burgundy and deer leather
The Big Crown Pointer Date keeps the features that have identified it for decades: the fluted bezel, the oversized crown and the central date hand. On that base, this edition pairs a burgundy dial with printed numerals and indexes and a brown deer-leather strap, two tones Oris links to autumn in the Waldenburg Valley forests. Because the leather keeps its natural marks, no two straps are alike, and the watch comes with a travel pouch made from the same material. The numerals, indexes and hands carry Super-LumiNova, so both time and date stay legible in low light.
The pointer date also shapes the design. Since the date is read at the edge, there is no window cut into the dial, and the burgundy runs uninterrupted from one side to the other. At 40 mm across, 12.2 mm thick and 48.2 mm lug to lug, the watch keeps moderate proportions that suit anyone who prefers a mid-sized piece, and the oversized crown that gives the collection its name makes winding and setting the time and date easy.

The Oris 754 caliber
Inside is the Oris 754, built on the proven Sellita SW200-1, a Swiss automatic movement running at 4 Hz with a 41-hour power reserve. Oris adds the pointer-date display: the central hand jumps instantly from one day to the next at midnight, and the date is adjusted with a corrector. The seconds hand stops when the crown is pulled, so the watch can be set precisely.
The Sellita base has a practical advantage for owners far from Switzerland: because the movement is so widespread, servicing tends to be simpler.

Sold in Mexico, Colombia and Spain
Oris's official websites list the watch at 56,000 Mexican pesos and €2,250 in Spain. In Mexico, the brand's store locator includes Oris Watch Mexico and retailers such as El Palacio de Hierro and Liverpool. In Colombia, Oris is sold through Glauser, which has previously carried other pieces from the Cervo Volante collaboration.

Its place in the Big Crown family
The Oris x Cervo Volante Burgundy pairs one of the oldest models in the Oris catalogue with a sustainably sourced leather strap, and the burgundy dial gives it a warmer tone than other versions of the Big Crown Pointer Date. In its favor are the pointer date, a moderately sized case, an easily serviced caliber and the included travel pouch. At USD 2,600, it costs 400 dollars more than the 40 mm Big Crown Pointer Date on a leather strap, a difference that covers this edition's own dial plus the Cervo Volante strap and pouch. Against it, the 41-hour power reserve will not carry the watch from Friday night to Monday morning. With 50 meters of water resistance and a leather strap, it is not the piece for anyone looking for a swimming watch; for those who want a Big Crown Pointer Date with an unusual dial color and a strap with its own story, this edition brings both together.
