The Swiss diver you should know: Oris Divers Date Olive

A ceramic bezel and a very specific price point put Oris's new olive-green diver exactly where collectors upgrading from an entry-level Swiss diver need to look before jumping to Tudor.

On July 10th, Oris expanded its Divers Date collection without touching anything but the color: the same 39mm steel case, the same black ceramic bezel, the same movement. What's new is a matte olive-green dial pulled from vintage military kit, joining the black, steel-blue and beige versions launched in 2024.

At $2,800, this watch falls squarely between the Mido Ocean Star 200 ($980), which we've already reviewed at ORELO, and the Tudor Pelagos FXD (starting at $4,500). It answers a specific question: what can you buy when you've outgrown your first Swiss dive watch, but Tudor is still out of your budget?

The family's first ceramic bezel

The change that matters most isn't the color, even if that's what sells it. It's the bezel: for the first time in this retro-leaning line, Oris swapped the aluminum insert —standard across the entire Divers Sixty-Five family— for black ceramic. That's a real upgrade, not a cosmetic one: ceramic doesn't scratch or fade under sun exposure the way aluminum does, and it's the same category of material found on considerably pricier Swiss divers.

The 39mm diameter and 12.1mm thickness of the case remains compact by today's dive watch standards, making it more suitable for the average Latin American wrist than the 42–44mm cases that dominate the category. Olive green, however, is not new territory for Oris: it already appears on the 40mm Divers Sixty-Five Date. Here, it's more about extending a proven color language to the updated collection than an entirely original chromatic proposal. The exposed-rivet bracelet, inherited from the 1965 design, remains the element that most visually distinguishes this watch from its direct competitors.

What's under the crystal

It beats at 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and delivers 41 hours of power reserve —enough to survive a weekend off the wrist, but noticeably short of the 70 hours in the Tudor Pelagos FXD this piece gets compared to. That's where the real technical case for stepping up to Tudor begins, not in the design: more power reserve, a chronometer-certified movement, and more vertically integrated component manufacturing. The Oris isn't competing in that conversation: it's competing one rung down, against the Mido, and it wins that one clearly.

An independent Swiss manufacturer and its distribution in Mexico

Oris is an independent manufacturer based in Hölstein, Switzerland, owned by its own managers since 1982 — a fact that the brand actively uses as part of its identity.

In Mexico, the official Oris store locator shows authorized distributors such as Ghiberti, Berger and Liverpool department stores.

About the price: $2,800 USD at the Banxico FIX exchange rate ($17.39 MXN/USD as of July 16, 2026) gives $48,692 MXN before VAT and distribution margin. The official price on the Oris website is $60,000 MXN.

Who is this rung for?

It's worth it if you already own an entry-level Swiss diver —the Mido Ocean Star 200, for instance— and want a real upgrade in materials without committing to a Tudor's $4,500 price tag. It's not worth it if what you're after is more power reserve or the prestige of an in-house movement: on both counts, Tudor still wins the technical argument. The Divers Date Olive is the watch for someone who has already decided they want a Swiss dive watch, with better materials and finishes, but doesn't need to show it off.

There's something curious about constructing a price ladder among three watches from three different brands: no one designed it that way on purpose, or did they? But there it is, available for anyone who knows how to read it. The question that remains isn't which one to buy first, but at what rung you decided you'd had enough—and for how long that answer will remain valid.
