Oris adds an oxblood dial to the Big Crown Pointer Date on bracelet

The Swiss brand now offers its Big Crown Pointer Date pilot's watch with an oxblood red dial, in the 40 mm steel-bracelet version that belongs to its permanent collection.

Oris has made watches in Hölstein, in northwestern Switzerland, since 1904. In 1938 it introduced the Big Crown Pointer Date as a pilot's watch, with the oversized crown that gives the family its name and a central hand that points to the day of the month around the edge of the dial. According to the brand, the Big Crown family has been in continuous production ever since. At Watches and Wonders 2025, the Geneva watch fair, Oris updated the 40 mm version with a smooth bezel, an H-link steel bracelet and dials in yellow, turquoise blue and lilac. On November 3 it added an oxblood red dial to that series.

In late September the brand had introduced another Big Crown Pointer Date in a similar shade, the Oris x Cervo Volante with a burgundy dial, which ORELO covered on October 1. That model is a special edition with the vintage-inspired case and a deerskin strap.

The oxblood dial

Oxblood is a deep red, close to the color of red wine, with the Arabic numerals, indices and hands in white; all of them carry Super-LumiNova, so the time can also be read in low light. The date hand is tipped in a red that contrasts with the dial; Oris says this helps the indication stand out against the 1 to 31 scale running around the edge. Because the date is read on that scale, the dial needs no date window.

The brushed case, the bezel and the bracelet are steel, and the bracelet's H-shaped links alternate brushed and polished surfaces, closing with a folding clasp developed by Oris.

The bezel sets this case apart from the vintage-inspired one on the Cervo Volante edition: here it is smooth with an angled profile, while the Cervo Volante's is fluted and rounded. The hands are different as well: the bracelet version has pencil hands, slim and straight with a pointed tip, whereas the Cervo Volante uses cathedral hands, with an openworked outline reminiscent of a Gothic church window. In size, the new case is slightly shorter and slimmer than the Cervo Volante's, which measures 48.2 mm lug to lug and 12.2 mm thick.

The Oris 754 caliber

The Oris 754 is a Swiss automatic movement based on the Sellita SW200-1, to which Oris adds the central pointer date. The date change is instantaneous. At midnight the hand moves from one number to the next in a single step, whereas a gradual date change moves it forward over several hours. After a 30-day month, the date is set with the corrector, without turning the hands.

Pulling out the crown stops the seconds hand, so the watch can be set to the second. The movement runs at 4 Hz, has a power reserve of 41 hours and can be seen through the mineral glass of the screwed caseback.

Prices and retail in Mexico and Spain

The official Oris website lists the oxblood Big Crown Pointer Date at USD 2,400 in the United States, MXN 52,000 in Mexico and EUR 2,000 in Spain; in the United States and Mexico, that is the same price as the other dials in the bracelet series. In Mexico and Spain the watch can be bought through the brand's online store. In Mexico, the Oris store locator lists Oris Watch Mexico in Mexico City, which also provides service, along with the department stores El Palacio de Hierro and Liverpool in the capital and in cities such as Guadalajara, Monterrey and Puebla.

A red dial in the 40 mm series

The new Big Crown Pointer Date shares its case, bracelet and calibre with the other 40 mm versions in the series, and differs from them in its dial. Oxblood, a dark and warm color, may read as more understated than the yellow or lilac dials Oris launched the series with in 2025. The Cervo Volante edition, in a similar shade on a deerskin strap, costs USD 200 and MXN 4,000 more than the bracelet version.
